– an EV Specialist intern’s perspective
Recently I searched up and down the North Shore Auto Mile for the best selections and best deals on electric vehicles. Visiting every dealership from the high-end BMW to the more conservative Honda, my results were pretty exciting. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the sales staff at these dealers were generally very helpful, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about the EVs. Each dealership had between 10 and 20 cars, with the exception of one or two smaller establishments that only carried a couple.
I especially liked the Chevrolet Bolt EV, which was stylish, fun to drive, and had great mileage with an EPA rated range of up to 238 miles per charge. The best place to go for a Bolt EV would be Herb Chambers Chevrolet in Danvers, MA. As of April 2019, they also still has several Chevy Volts remaining in stock (the Volt was discontinued this year but its drive train may end up in a future GM car). The Volt is a plug-in hybrid electric car that provides 53 miles of all-electric range and a hybrid mode for a 420-mile total range that works just like any gasoline car for long trips. EV-knowledgeable salesperson is Kevin Fitzpatrick who will help you choose the most suitable vehicle to fit your lifestyle.

If you are looking more in the high-end area, another great dealership to visit is BMW of Peabody. Their EV specialist is Mitchell Bussone, who is very friendly, inviting and knows a lot about driving electric. He seemed especially keen on the BMW i3 which is more on the affordable side while remaining extremely sleek and luxurious. The i3 comes in both types of electric – all-electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) so again you can choose which best fits your life style. And there are surprisingly good lease deals for a premium brand.
There was also a nice selection of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles which use both battery and gas engines. A good example of this type is the Toyota Prius Prime which can be found at Ira Toyota. Ira Toyota is located in Danvers, MA. Their sales manager Peter Martin was very welcoming and excited about the Prius Prime. A supportive and enthusiastic dealership is reassuring in confirming a decision to get an electric car from their location.
