What to Expect In 2021: Let’s Kick the Tires on the New EVs Launching this Year!

As we turn the page on the calendar, we welcome in the exciting prospect of several brand new EVs.  These quiet, clean and quickly accelerating vehicles will surely start showing up in driveways near you and who knows, maybe even in yours!  With so many auto companies rolling out new models, I might go as far as saying that 2021 will be the year of the EV!  Enough teasing already, let’s get to the cars…

Ford

Ford is launching the much-anticipated Mustang Mach-E.  An all-electric crossover that comes in various drive train configurations and 230-300 miles of range.  They will also begin selling a plug-in hybrid version of their popular Escape SUV with 37 miles of all electric range (AER) and 530 total vehicle miles.

Volkswagen

VW is launching an all-new electric crossover called the ID.4.  Tailored for the US market, it has a range of 250 miles and is the first of a full line of electric vehicles that may eventually include a throwback microbus.

Nissan

Due out midyear, Nissan follows up their very successful Leaf EV with the all-electric Ariya or (R-E Ya).  It will have multiple drive trains and a range of up to 300 miles.

Volvo

You don’t have to wait to get your hands on the first all-electric from Volvo.  The XC40 Recharge is a compact utility vehicle or CUV with 208 miles of range.  Volvo also offers a complete lineup of PHEVs, including 2 SUVs, 2 sedans and their station wagon.  All have around 20 miles of AER and 500 total vehicle miles.

Toyota

Following up on the original high mileage car, the Prius, Toyota has recently launched the RAV4 Prime.  This familiar vehicle now comes in a PHEV with an AER of 42 miles and 600 total vehicle miles.  Initial availability is limited due to strong demand and restricted production.  Your local dealer is likely to have a waiting list for this compelling SUV.

EV Trucks

2021 may well be remembered as the year EVs went mainstream, but it will likely be the year we all saw our first all-electric pickup truck.  New comer Rivian will be out midyear with its R1T, offering a 300-mile range.  Another EV start up, Lordstown, will begin production of its Endurance later in 2021 with a 250-mile range.

And just to whet your appetite, Tesla will also be producing their version of a pickup truck.  Although, it looks like we will have to wait until early 2022 to see it silently roaming the streets.  Not to be outdone, others like Ford and GM will be producing their own all-electric models.  The economics and fuel savings on these large vehicles are just too significant to pass up.

So that’s our quick rundown of new EV models being introduced in 2021.  Be sure to check back next year to see who else will be contributing to our transportation future.  To be sure, all the automakers produce or plan to make 1, 2 or a full line of EVs in the near future.  And as always, we will be here to assist and connect you to the latest and greatest EV that is perfect for you!
